Thomas C. Hanson Killed in Korea Jet Crash Plane Crashes on take off June 6 1st Lt. Thomas C. Hanson was killed in the crash of his airplane June 6 on the Korean battle front. He is the son of Mrs. Mary Tackett, Norman and a nephew of Mrs. Verd Foster and Mrs. Raymond Murray. Word of his death was not received by his mother until Wednesday June 20 when she received letters from two of his superior officers. Cause of Hanson’s crash was listed as a power failure on take off. The plane was never able to leave the field and crashed into an embankment at the end of the runway where it burst into flames. Lt. Hanson graduated from the Rush Springs high school in 1941 after which he immediately joined the United States Navy serving throughout World War II. After being discharged from the Navy, he enlisted as a cadet in the Air Force, receiving his wings and was assigned to jet fighter squadron. Hanson was ordered to Korea in November and just before leaving flew over Rush Springs a number of times in his jet fighter.
