Charles Gilbert Ivie was born Aug. 8, 1910, in Los Angeles, Calif., and died on Monday, July 29, 2002, in Chickasha. Ivie chose cremation, and his remains will be interred in Amber Cemetery, Amber, Okla. There is no viewing at the funeral home or the memorial service. Services are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home. ========== The Chickasha Express-Star 4 August 2002 CHARLES GILBERT IVIE Memorial services for Charles Gilbert Ivie, 91, of Chickasha, will be Monday, August 5, 2002, at 10:00 a.m. in the Epworth United Methodist Church with Reverend Don Horton officiating. Charles Gilbert Ivie was born August 8, 1910, in Los Angeles, California, the son of Charles Houston Ivie and Nora Bessie Wynne Ivie. He died Monday, July 29, 2002, in Chickasha. Mr. Ivie grew up in the Amber area where he attended Amber Public Schools. Gilbert worked hard all of his life. He was a blacksmith, a farmer, he picked cotton, loaded and unloaded coal, and assisted in the building of the Grand Coolie Dam. Most of his adult life, Mr. Ivie owned and operated Ivie Construction Company. He lived and worked in Denver, Colorado, Lakewood, California, and Bellingham, Washington. He retired to Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1982. In January of 1983, Gilbert married the love of his life, Marguerite Orahood Smith, in Chickasha. In his retirement, Gilbert, worked as a carpenter, painter and general handy man. One of his greatest joys was the raising of cattle, which he did in partnership with his stepson, Richard. He was preceded in death by both parents, two brothers, one sister and one stepdaughter. Survivors include his wife Marguerite, of the home; three daughters, Darlene Ivie Heil, of Bakersfield, California, Betty Ivie Goldblatt, of New York City, New York, Diana Joann Wiest Holden, of Bellflower, California; one son, David Charles Ivie, of Bellingham, Washington; three sisters, Eletha Estes, of Wenatchee, Washington, Martha Carpenter, of Merritt Island, Florida, Jean Buelow, of Missoula, Montana; two brothers, Bob Ivie, of Nowata, Oklahoma, Jim Ivie, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; the mother of his children, Thelma Turner Ivie; three stepchildren, Richard Smith, of Yukon, Oklahoma, Sheila Herald, of Conroe, Texas, Dixie Belcher, of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; ten step-grandchildren, nine step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Cremation was his desire and his cremains will be interred in the Amber Cemetery. There is no viewing at the funeral home or the memorial service. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Central Oklahoma, 205 West Chickasha, Suite #1, Chickasha, Oklahoma, 73018. Services are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
