Mr. Jones was in town Wednesday meeting his friends in his usual jovial way. It was about ten o'clock Wednesday night, when some men stopped at the Jones filling station, about a mile east of Verden, and called him to the station, a little later his wife went out to see about him and found he had been given a pint of alcohol by these men; he was unable to make his way back to the house and was assisted and put to bed. His wife, thinking he would be alright after his night of sleep, awoke in the morning to find him cold in death. An inquest was held at the home by authorities and it was decided the whiskey given Mr. Jones was poison and the remainder of the alcohol will be analysed. The names of the men selling the alcohol to Mr. Jones have not been located. Mr. and Mrs. Jones live one mile east of town where Mr. Jones operated a filling station on highway 62 and have only lived there about a year, where the home and station were built on his farm. Mr. Jones has many friends, having been reared here. The funeral services will be conducted at the Methodist church Friday afternoon, at 3 o'clock with Rev. C. W. Taylor officiating. Interment will be made in the Verden cemetery beside his father who preceded him in death about four years ago. The Hansen Funeral Home are in charge of the burial arrangements.
