All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Rush Springs Cemetery--Rush Springs OK Rush Springs Gazette March 27, 1980 Lucian Walter Jones Funeral services for Lucian Walter Jones, 101 were held Monday at 10:30 a.m. from the 16th and Florida Church of Christ in Chickasha. Jim Lane, minister of the church officiated. He was assisted by James Baumam. Jones was born Feb 23, 1879 in Freestone County, TX. He died Friday, March 21, in the Tally Walker Hospital in Marlow. He and Maude Jeffie Davis were married in May of 1903 in Rush Springs IT. His wife preceding him in death in Jan of 1973. Also preceding him death were five sons and a daughter. Jones moved with his family from Freestone County to Rush Springs in 1899. He was a farmer and the first Grady county deputy sheriff to receive pay after statehood. He served under Matt Sanky in 1917. He was a guard at Granite Reformatory in 1934-35. He retired at the age of 76 after serving 23 years as superintendent of state highways in Grady County. Survivors include four daughters; Dorothy Grimes of Tucson, AZ, Opal Moon of Oklahoma City, Ruby Bozeman of Fort Worth, TX, and Betty Davidson of Cleveland, Ohio; Six grand children; seven great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
