JOHNSTON Funeral services for Thelma R. Johnston, 84, of Chickasha, Okla., will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at Southern Oaks Church of Christ. Thelma R. Johnston was bory July 3, 1919, and died on Sunday, March 14, 2004, in Chickasha. Buriel will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, Chickasha, under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home. ========== The Chickasha Express-Star 16 March 2004 THELMA R. JOHNSTON Funeral services for Thelma R. Johnston, 84, of Chickasha, will be held Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at 1:30 p.m. in the Southern Oaks Church of Christ, with Steve Parker officiating and Jim Sheerer assisting. Thelma R. Johnston was born July 3, 1919, in Jefferson County, Oklahoma, the daughter of Otto and Iva Wilson Robinson. She died peacefully on Sunday, March 14, 2004, in Chickasha. Thelma graduated from Terrel High School in 1937. In 1941 she moved to Chickasha where she met J. C. "Jude" Johnston. They married on February 17, 1942. She had a variety of work experiences during her early years, working in a restaurant, a print shop, department store and even a bomb manufacturing plant during World War II. She was later a bookkeeper and partner with Jude at Johnston Motor Supply, which they owned until their retirement. She was a faithful member of the Southern Oaks Church of Christ. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jude, on September 6, 2003, after 61 years of marriage; one brother, Carl Robinson; and a grandson, Joe Leggett. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Rhonda Johnston, of Chickasha; daughter and son-in-law, Debby and Alton Rawlins, of Cheyenne, OK; grandchildren, Jane Johnston, Jason Leggett and wife, Summer, Terry Rawlins and wife, Vanessa, De Trammell, and Ace Rawlins; three great grandchildren; sisters, Frankie Tallon and her husband, Marion, of Edmond, and Judy McCorkle of Archer City, Texas; and a special friend, Jo Garner, with Helping Hands, who has faithfully helped with her care for the past 15 months.
