Steve Parker officiated, with Jim Sheerer assisting. Julius Johnston was born November 10, 1911, in Little River County, Arkansas, the son of Sterling Johnston and Zora Beardon Johnston. He died Saturday, September 6, 2003, in Chickasha. Jude moved from Little River County, Arkansas, in the fall of 1916 to Ninnekah, Oklahoma, where the family farmed in the Coffelt community. In the spring of 1935 he went to work for Indian Territorial Oil Company in Oklahoma City. He worked for Ray Smith's station in 1937, and it was there that he met Thelma Robinson. They got married in February 1942 in Anadarko. He entered the Army in March 1942, serving until 1945. He and Thelma have lived in Chickasha since that time. Most of his career was spent in the automotive parts business, eventually opening his own business, Johnston Motor Supply, where he was active until his health prevented him. Over the years Jude enjoyed singing with the Barbershop chorus, bowling and fishing. He spent untold hours volunteering for the Optimist Club, raising money to fund youth projects in our community. He and Thelma have enjoyed at least one night of pinochle each week for the past 50 years, the past 30 or 40 years with their friends the Nulls and the Klippels. In 1991 he became a member of the Southern Oaks Church of Christ where he had attended for many years. His faith in God, combined with the encouragement of the people of Southern Oaks made his final days some of the best in his life. Jude was proceeded in death by both parents, five sisters, Mildred Blanchard, Grace Githens, Eva Schoolfield, Blanche Whitener, Ethel Whitener, one brother, Fay Johnston, and a grandson, Joe Leggett. Survivors include his wife, Thelma Johnston of the home, son and daughter- in-law, Rick and Rhonda Johnston of Chickasha, daughter and son-in-law, Debby and Alton Rawlins of Cheyenne, Oklahoma, one brother, Jodie Johnston and wife Teka of Moore, one sister Anna Gage of Lindsay grandchildren, Jane Johnston, Jason Leggett and wife Summer, Terry Rawlins and wife Vanessa, De Rawlins, and Ace Rawlins, and two great grandchildren, Brooke and Christopher, plus a large extended family and many friends.
