"Rites for G. Johnson Held in Church Today Services were held today at 2:30 in the Southern Baptist Church for George M. Johnson. Rev. Robert Young officiated, assisted by Rev. Tom Broughtown of Pauls Valley. George Melvin Johnson died at his home at 4 pm Tuesday, May 12, 1959, after being ill about 5 months with a heart condition. Mr. Johnson was born at Decatur, Texas, May 13, 1892. He was 66 years, lacking one day being 67 years of age. He grew up, went to school and lived in Texas until he came to Oklahoma in 1927. He was married to Mora Bond, December 20, 1914 and to this union was born three daughters; Bela, Flora Fay and Dolly; and a son, Jasper. His wife died January 13, 1925. Mr. Johnson was married to Winnie Gossett, March 28, 1938. They have made their home in and near Rush Springs since that time where he has been a farmer and a carpenter. Survivors are his wife and son, Jasper, of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Bela McClure of Rush Springs, Mrs. Flora Fay Cantwell of Midwest City, and Mrs. Dolly Cantwell of Oklahoma City; two step-daughters, Mrs. Winona Wettengel of Henrietta, Texas and Mrs. Maxine Cast of Midland, Texas; one brother, Joe Johnson and one sister, Mrs. Exa Jones both of Duncan; another sister, Mrs. Mercia Reagan of Decatur, Texas; six half-sisters, seven half- brothers, Mrs. Dorie Jones of Cox City, Mrs. Ora Hudman and Elmer Johnson of Abilene, Texas, Mrs. Vera Smith, Mrs. Bertha Shoemake, Sam Johnson and Charlie Johnson of California, Mrs. Katie Black of Alex, Milton Johnson of Chickasha, and Johnny Johnson who lives in Montana. Other survivors include thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Burial will be in the Rush Springs cemetery."
