All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Ukiah Cemetery--Ukiah CA Santa Rosa Press Democrat Published on May 8, 1996 LOIS JOHNSON-JONES Lois Johnson-Jones, a devoted volunteer at the Greater Ukiah Senior Center for 16 years, died Saturday at her Ukiah home due to a combination of health problems. She was 80. Johnson-Jones, born in Chicksha, Okla., moved to Ukiah 45 years ago. She worked for 16 years as a psychiatric technician at the former Mendocino State Hospital, retiring in 1960. After the death of her husband, Troy Johnson, she busied herself volunteering at the Senior Center. She also served for four years on the center's board of directors, according to her daughter, Sue Royce Johnson of Ukiah. Her work at the center earned her recognition in 1989 with William Jones of the American Association of Retired Persons for service to the community. She also received a lifetime membership at the center in 1992, and in 1994 was honored by the Saturday Night Dancers for years of good times and fond memories. JohnsonJones also was honored by the Ukiah Rotary Foundation as a Paul Harris Fellow. She and Jones became longtime companions after her husband died in 1978. She and Johnson were married for 57 years. Besides her sister and Jones, Johnson-Jones is survived by another sister, Loujean La Malfa of Petaluma; sisters, Jemmie Berry of Redding and Ruby Mathison of Springfield, Ore.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Ukiah Cemetery.
