J." KEMPE Funeral service for Ethel Jewel "E. J." Kempe, 88, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 24, 2004, at the Epworth United Methodist Church. Ethel Jewel "E. J." Kempe was born March 12, 1915, in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Willy Alexander and Josephine (Harmon) Gardner, and died February 21, 2004, in Chickasha. Mrs. Kempe lived in Chickasha all her life. She worked at the Chickasha Library, retiring in 1979. She and Wilbur J. "Bill" Kempe were married June 2, 1936. He preceded her in death in 1993. Mrs. Kempe was a member of the Wedding Ring Sunday School Class and a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church. She was a past president of Junior Social Workers. Survivors include one daughter, Beverly Sorrels, of Chickasha; one son and his wife, Roy and Diana Kempe, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Barry Rhodes of Chickasha, Michelle Rakes of Bristow, Oklahoma, and Christine Kempe of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two great grandchildren, Robi Rhodes of Columbus, Ohio, and Lily Jewel Rakes of Bristow, Oklahoma.
