Lillie Mae Knight was born February 26, 1910 in El Reno, Oklahoma, the daughter of John Alexander and Nellie Mae (Hutton) Vanpool and died Monday, August 14, 2000 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She and George H. Knight were married November 23, 1928 in Wheeler, Texas. He preceded her in death November 6, 1996. They moved to Chickasha January 1, 1938. Mrs. Knight worked at the Dixie Store for 20 years, retiring in 1972. She started working at the Tag Agency in 1972 and worked with her husband until 1990. Mrs. Knight was an active member of the First Baptist Church. She was a member of the ABWA for 27 years and had 21 years of perfect attendance. She was named ABWA Woman of the Year in 1998. Mrs. Knight was active as Lion’s Club Wife, was a member of Matrix and was a charter member of the 1938 Study Club. Survivors include 1 daughter Carol Jean Ovard and husband, Judge John C. of Dallas, Texas; 2 sons George H. Knight, Jr. and wife, Jan, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, James E. “Butch” Knight and wife, Sherry, of Mounds, Oklahoma; 2 brothers Charly Vanpool of Bowie, Texas, Hank Vanpool of Oracle, Arizona; 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild. Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home. Submitted by Sandi Carter
