Last rites were held here Saturday for Charles T. Karnes, who died Thursday 
night in the Anadarko hospital after a brief illness.

Mr. Karnes was a pioneer citizen of this community, having resided on a farm 
south of town for a number of years.

Charles T. Karnes was born December 1, 1868 passed away April 4, 1940 at the 
age of 71 years, 4 months and 3 days.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Kate and one daughter, Mrs. Susan 
Whitlock of Chicaso, Ill; three sons, Harold, James and Orville Karnes of 
Verden; four brothers, W. H. and Mike Karnes of Verden; G. M. Karnes of 
California and Joe Karnes of Arkansas and one sister, Mrs. Mollie Pliler of 
Baxter Springs, Kansas and 14 grandchildren.

The funeral services were held at the Baptist church Saturday afternoon with 
Rev. L. D. Wilkes and Rev. W. T. Spradlin officiating. The Turner family of 
Norge furnished the music.

Interment was made in the Verden Cemetery with Hansen Funeral Home in charge 
of burial arrangements.
