The sad news was received Tuesday by relatives of G. M. Karnes to the effect that he was one of the unfortunate victims in the Lindsay hotel fire which occurred early Tuesday morning and received injuries which later caused his death. Mr. Karnes, who is an old-timer of this community was returning to his home at Verden from a visit with his sister at Ardmore and had to lay over in Lindsay to wait on the train that would bring him to Chickasha the next morning and was putting up at the hotel above mentioned and the alarm was given early Tuesday morning. Mr. Karnes who is about eighty-three years of age was unable to get out of the building before sustaining serious burns which caused his death on Wednesday morning. Mr. Karnes has been a resident of this vicinity for the past nine years and is well and favorably known. He has been making his home with his sister Mrs. Mary Karnes two miles west and one half mile south of Verden. Deceased leaves four brothers and three sisters also other relatives to mourn his loss. The body was brought to Verden Wednesday evening and funeral services were held at the grave by Rev. C. W. Taylor. The NEWS joins the many friends in extending sympathy to the sorrowing relatives.
