"Funeral Services Held Sunday for J. A. Leverett Funeral services were held Sunday for J. A. Leverett in the Church of Christ by Gussie Lambert, minister, and Bro. C. A. Spencer. Interment was made in the Rush Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers were C. E. Bernard, A. B. Widdle, E. F. Dawkins, A. F. Atchison, Clabe Sperling and L. V. Morris. Flower girls were, Mrs. Mildred May, Mrs. Lorena Landrum and Mrs. E. G. Graham. Mr. Leverett was a pioneer of this community, having lived here for the past 30 years. He had been seriously ill since April 15. John A. Leverett was born March 7, 1855, near Buckhannon, Georgia, the son of Jessie and Betsy Leverett, and died April 20, 1940, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Baker, at the age of 85 years. In 1868, he moved to Texas with his parents and was married there to Martha Shipp in 1882, who preceeded him in death in 1931. To this union were born three children, Mrs. John Baker, Mrs. Judd Shotts of Rush Springs and John M. Leverett of Oklahoma City, who survive.
