Ruby Ineta Buckalew was born on September 5, 1921, in a log cabin in Purvis, Mississippi. She was the firstborn child of Arthur and Lettie Buckalew. Her family moved to Cyril, Oklahoma in 1929. As a young girl during the Depression, she developed strong life skills as she helped support her family by doing laundry for others. She also cared for her ailing father, and helped to raise crops. On January 6, 1940, Ruby married Melvin B. Lynn. They made Chickasha their home for 64 years, and raised three children here. Ruby was a homemaker, but held occasional employment at Brees' Drive-In, and the Oklahoma Hospital. For many years, she took care of children in her home. In 1969, she was employed by C. R. Anthony as a sales clerk and was later promoted to assistant bookkeeper. The family attended First Assembly of God Church, where for more than 25 years, Ruby taught the Nursery Sunday School class and was a faithful member of the choir. In the 1950s, she would prepare special unleavened bread for Communion service. She knew just how to prepare it so it would break into perfect little squares. Every Sunday morning before church, she would prepare a meal for her family to return home to and then would leave early for church to pick up other members that needed a ride. On September 2, 1976, she amd Melvin opened Lynn Natural Health Food Center. for more than 25 years, she cheerfully greeted and assisted customers as they entered the store. She had a "never meets a stranger" personality that made everyone feel welcome and at home - and of course, everyone who came in was given the latest news on her children and grandchildren. In June of 2002, Ruby and Melvin were honored as Mr. and Mrs. Chickasha. This was one of the proudest moments of their lives, and from that time on, Melvin lovingly addressed Ruby as, "Mrs. Chickasha." Ruby led a life of selfless, tireless giving to her family, church and community. She was devoted to maintaining a Christian home and lived an exemplary life of service to the Lord as a faithful wife and mother. She was a modern-day example of the Proverbs 31 woman. Her talents and abilities were far reaching, she loved unconditionally, and had a heart that welcomed each addition to the family without reserve. We, her family will forever cherish the memory of her light-hearted and cheerful personality, her ingenuity, her depth of love for each of us, her example of hard work and endurance, her unwavering faith in God, and of how she marveled and delighted at the simple things in life. She will be greatly missed, but we rejoice that she has run her race and finished it well. A home-going service celebrating her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 167, 2004 at First Assembly of God Church, 3340 S. 16th Street, in Chickasha.
