All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Verden Cemetery--Verden OK The Verden News December 12, 1941 RITES HELD FOR TWO PIONEER CITIZENS OF VERDEN Two Pioneer Citizens Rites Held Here Verden community is saddened by the death of two pioneer citizens this week. Mrs. Hattie Lay came here in 1886 and J. C. "Uncle Johnnie" McVey in 1902 and both have lived righteously setting an example as outstanding characters, and have been very helpful in promoting the growth of Christianity by living Christian lives setting an example that generations to come will want to live by. Funeral services for Mrs. Lay were held at the Methodist church Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. R. E. Spann, pastor, officiating. The choir was composed of Mrs. R. M. Caldwell, Mrs. Kirby Whitley, Floyd Adkisson and F. G. Ransbarger with Mrs. F. G. Ransbarger at the piano using hymns; "Rock of Ages," "Face to Face," and "Does Jesus Care." Casket bearers for the service were Henry and W. B. Methvin, E. W. Peters, Berry Smith, C. R. Dahms, and Kirby Whitley.
