MAYES Memorial services for Grace N. Mayes, 85, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 28, 2002, in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Johnny Wray officiating. Grace Mayes was born July 30, 1917, in El Paso, Texas, the daughter of John W. Winslette and Cora Bell (Swafford) Winslette and died December 12, 2002, in Chickasha, OK. Ms. Mayes was reared in Los Angeles, California, where she attended school, married, and worked with the public in restaurants. She enjoyed music, cooking, serving and her family and friends. She was a strong, independent woman who never met a stranger. She liked all kinds of knickknacks and collected recipes for many years. She was a member of the VFW Ladies' Auxiliary and Emblem Club. She was a member of the Parkview Christian Church in Chickasha. She was preceded in death by one sister, Alta Pace. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Carole Suzanne and Richard Skaggs, of Chickasha; one son and daughter-in-law, William E. and Mariane Mayes, of Tempe, Arizona; two sisters: Edith Garrett of Santee, California, and Jeanne Greenwood of Ogdon, Utah; five grandchildren: Dondrea Freese, of Chickasha, Michael Lewis and John Lewis of California, Laura Mayes and Kristin Mayes of Arizona; one great granddaughter: Melissa Skaggs of California.
