All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== The Washita Valley Herald 8 February 1962 McVEY SERVICES HELD TUESDAY Funeral services for Grover Cleveland McVey, 76, were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 in the First Baptist Church ast Verden. Rev. Jim Robertson of Sulphur and Rev. Martin Northcutt, pastor of the Verden Methodist Church, officiated. A quartet composed of Miss Linda West, Mrs. W. A. Finley, Mrs. Harry Dodson and Mrs. Max Upchurch, sang "Rock of Ages," "Beautiful Isle" and "Safe in The Arms of Jesus." They were accompanied by Mrs. Donald Brown. Pallbearers were Harry Dodson, Kenneth West, C. B. Dabney, Chick Griffith, Donald Brown and Dank Pitts. Interment was in the Verden Cemetery under the direction of Hansen's Funeral Home. Mr. McVey was born in Knox County, Ky., on June 4, 1885, and died Feb. 5 in the Anadarko Hospital. He came to Oklahoma from Kentucky in 1907 and was a school teacher and farmer. He was married to Miss Helel Garwood Rose Oct. 26, 1909, in Verden. He was a member of the Methodist Church, IOOF Lodge and a stockholder in The National Bank of Verden. Survivors are his wife; a son, George of Verden; two daughters, Mrs. Virginia Gooden of Apache and Mrs. Marjorie Pace, Anadarko, Rt. 2; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren; and four brothers, Dr. G. M. McVey and Sid McVey of Verden, R. C. McVey of Chickasha and J. B.
