Survived by sisters Loretta Bell, Wichita; Dortha Brinkley and brother-in- law Johnny, Grady County, Oklahoma; brother Ben Dolch, Grady County, Oklahoma; brother Ben Dolch, Grady County, Oklahoma; daughter Ann and son- in-law, Jim Burton, Wichita; son Garvin and daughter-in-law, Mary Lou of Butler County; daughter-in-law, Joyce Johnson McDaniels of Buffalo, New York; four grandchildren, Todd McDaniels, Allen Wise, Glen Wise, and Doris McClendon; and five great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband James in 1997 after over 60 years of marriage, and her son, Ellis, in 1999. Aurelia realized her dream in 1963 when she graduated from Wichita State University with a bachelor's degree in secondary education and she embarked on an illustrious career as a high school math and science teacher. A pioneer as a female math and science teacher, she taught at Derby High, Lenora High, Oxford High, and in the Wichita system, retiring in 1986. She continued to substitute teach until 1992 and remained active in the Derby Retired Teachers' Association, and frequented the Derby Senior Center where she participated in numerous social activities with longtime friends. Her affinity to Wichita State did not end with her graduation. Both of her sons were awarded WSU bachelor's degrees; her daughters-in-law received WSU degrees: Joyce a bachelor's and Mary Lou a master's; and her grandson Allen and nephew Rodney are WSU graduates. Aurelia began a family tradition that has spanned three generations and produced seven degrees, an enviable record of which she was proud. Retirement did not mean quitting for her. For several years she served as a substitute teacher and tutor for several Derby youth. Hundreds of Kansas parents can be thankful to Aurelia for the positive influences she had on their children.
