All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== (Colorado newspaper) Obituary of Ethel Marcella McKelvy Ethel Marcella McKelvy died on Sept. 21 at Gunnison Health Care Center following a lenghy illness. Marcella was born Oct. 26, 1910, to John H. and Hortense Bryson Hilton in Dee, Okla. She attended schools in Goodwell, Okla., and nurses' training in Liberal, Kan. She married John Aubrey McKelvy, a carpenter by trade, on July 6, 1930, in Elkhart, Kan., and lived there until 1933, when they moved to Chickasha, Okla. In 1943, they started McKelvy Floor Sanding Service, finishing the hardwood floors of many beautiful homes, churches and schools in the area. In 1950 they moved to Gunnison and bought the Bonnie Court (now the Mountain View Chalet), which they sold in 1967. They purchased the Wildreness Lodge, 10 miles west of Gunnison in 1958 and sold it to the government in 1962, after which they bought the Neversink Resort and built a lodge which was employed by tourists and fishermen. They bought 670 acres on Antelope Hill in 1963 and the family lived there until they moved to Delta in 1976. After her husband died in 1987, Marcella sold their home and lived in various retirement and nursing homes in Montrose and Delta before returning to Gunnison. She was a member of the Baptist Church. Survivor's include one son, Delmer "Bud" McKelvy and wife Betty of Fruita; and three daughters, Bettie and husband Russell B. Weaver of Gunnison, Ramonia and husband Crandall Howard of Olathe, and Janella Tate of Delta; brothers, Bob Hilton and James Howard Hilton, both of Las Vegas, 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, and one brother, Roy Hilton.
