All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== The Verden News November 19, 1926 FORMERLY DEPUTY SHERIFF OF VERDEN KILLED BY TRAIN D. H. McGinnie, deputy sheriff from Cove, Arkansas, and Dr. Campbell also of Arkansas were hit by Rock Island train north of Addington, Oklahoma last Wednesday morning. McGinnie died a few hours later, while Dr. Campbell was seriously injured but will probably recover. McGinnie sustained both legs broker, his chest badly crushed and other bruises. The two men were enroute for Verden in a car when just a few miles of Addington when the accident occurred. Mr. McGinnie, was formerly deputy sheriff at Verden, having resided here a number of years, was coming over to visit his daughter, Mrs. Harry Johns, wife of Mr. Johns who is employed at the White Cash Grocery here. Deceased had sent a message here to his daughter that he was coming and would arrive some[time] that day, but so sad, that the message followed stating his death. The body was brought here for burial Thursday. Rev. Brogan conducted the funeral service and interment was made in Verden cemetery.
