Bernice McComas was born May 12, 1915, and died on Monday, Feb. 2, 2004. ========== The Chickasha Express-Star 3 February 2004 BERNICE BLANCH McCOMAS Funeral service for Bernice Blanch McComas, age 87, of Verden, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 5, 2004, in the Verden United Methodist Church. Rev. Mark Whitley will officiate. Rev. Johnny Wray will assist. Bernice McComas was born the daughter of Samuel E. Talkington and Millie A. DeLude Talkington on May 12, 1916, in Verden, Oklahoma. She died on February 2, 2004, in Verden. Bernice was born and grew up on the family farm north of Verden. She attended school in Verden and graduated from Verden High School. Bernice married William "Bill" McComas on December 24, 1937, in California. They lived in California until 1949, when they moved back to Verden on the family farm. She was a member of the Verden United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, Roy, Norman, Orville, Orgel, and Leo Talkington, one sister, Mae Spradley, and one son, Sam McComas. Survivors include her husband William I. H. McComas of Verden; daughter and husband Sue and Bob Gallup of La Plata, Maryland; granddaughter and husband Cathy and Carl Groseclose of Verden; grandson William Samuel McComas, Jr., of Chickasha; granddaughter and husband, Robin and Jim Bouchard of Raleigh, North Carolina; granddaughter and husband Sherri and Vaughn Herbert of La Plate, Maryland; grandson and wife Dan and Erica McComas of Chickasha; nine great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery.
