He graduated from Cox City High School, attended Oklahoma A & M in Stillwater and Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee. He was ordained to the gospel ministry June 15, 1951. He married June 19, 1953 to Ruth Miller. He served in the following churches: Rocky Ford Mission, Vimy Ridge, Ninnekah, Tuttle, Beaver, Elgin, Rush Springs, Henryetta, Lindsay, Letitia, and Duncan Trinity. He went to be with the Lord on February 3, 2003, at 11:11 p.m. in the Norman Regional Hospital. He is survived by Ruth E. of the home, two sons, David and wife, Angela McConnell of Mounds, Oklahoma, Phillip and wife, Guress McConnell of Yuma, Arizona; three daughters: Kathy and husband Rod Whitfill of Gorman, Texas, Christy and husband, Waymond McGee of Marlow, Oklahoma, Tammy and husband Terry Moore of McAlester, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren: Amanda and Cassie McConnell, Joseph and Ali Whitfill, Mariah McConnell, Rachel, Jacob and Zachary Moore. Also, he is survived by two sisters and one brother-in-law: Clema Broughton of Marlow, Oklahoma, and Dr. Robert and Clara Gibson of Oklahoma City; aunts: Joy Massegee of Duncan, Oklahoma and Naomi Bekley of California; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and adopted brother, brother in Christ and life-long friend Caleb Lindsay. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and parents: Alvin and Lillie McConnell, and one brother-in-law, Tom Broughton. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 7, 2003, at the First Baptist Church in Lindsay with Rev. Monty Baggett, Don Chaffin, Boyd Rayburn and Kenneth Romines officiating.
