"BUDDY" McCREA E. L. "Buddy" McCrea, 74, of San Marcos, TX, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2004. He was born in Gotebo, Oklahoma, on June 30, 1929, to Lilburn Burns and Clarice Ivy (Gunter) McCrea. "Buddy", as he was affectionately known, attended Chickasha High School before enlisting in the United States Navy, where he was a chief steel worker and retired as a chief petty officer. He served aboard the U.S.S. Black. In 1956 he transferred to the Sea Bus. He served 22 years, spending his last year in Vietnam. He then spent six years teaching at Job Corps in San Marcos, TX. He was also later retired after eighteen years from Austin Community College, where he served as Department Head and Division Chair of the Industrial Technical Division. He was a member of the First Christian Church and enjoyed working with his hands, building, fishing and working with metal. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Angie Githens McCrea; two sons, Scott McCrea and Fiancé, Peggy of Huntsville, TX, and Jon McCrea of Austin, TX; two sisters, Marcella Cook of Chickasha, OK, and Joyce Wallace of San Marcos, TX; and two granddaughters, Lacy McCrea and Christina McCrea. Family received friends Friday, January 30, 2004, at Pennington Funeral Home. Pallbearers for his service were his nephews, Bill Cook of Terrel, TX, Tommy Cook of Mesa, AZ, Gary Cook of Chickasha, OK, Charles Camp of Chickasha, Troy Wallace of San Marcos and friend Warren Donworth of Austin, TX. Funeral Services were conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 31, 2004, at the First Christian Church in San Marcos, with Rev. Pat Githens and Rev. Gary Smith officiating.
