Dakota Avenue. Rev. A. I. Walton, minister, will officiate. Visitation will be on Friday, Dec. 13, at Brown/Christian Funeral Home. Jerry Ann Mitchell was born Aug. 19, 1954, and died on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at Grady Memorial Hospital in Chickasha. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Brown/Christian Funeral Home. ========== The Chickasha Express-Star 12 December 2002 JERRY ANN MITCHELL Funeral services for Jerry Ann Mitchell, 48, of 1402 South First Street, Chickasha, will be held Saturday, December 14, 2002, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 101 East Dakota Avenue, Chickasha, Oklahoma, Reverend A. I. Walton, minister, officiating. Visitation will be Friday, December 13, 2002, from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Brown/Christian Funeral Home. Jerry Ann Mitchell, the daughter of the late Earnest and Reamon Pearl Mitchell, the first of three children, was born on August 19, 1954, in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Jerry was converted and baptized at the First Baptist Church at a very young age under the pastorship of the late Reverend R. S. Corbin. She was a faithful member of the church, serving in various capacities. She served as the Sunday School superintendent, chairperson of Circle #2, chairperson of the Kitchen Committee, youth counselor, choir member, and was serving in the capacity of custodian when she passed. Additionally, Jerry formally held positions in the Chickasaw District Association of the Oklahoma State Baptist Association. Academically, she attended Lincoln Elementary School and graduated from Chickasha High School in 1973. After graduation Jerry attended Langston University. She graduated from with a bachelor's degree from University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. Jerry continued additional studies at Oklahoma University. In our community, Jerry was a board member of the Bullock Memorial Center. She was also a member of Purity Chapter #34 OES, and was a Girl Scout leader. Jerry participated in Census taking for year 2000. She taught GED classes and was a member of the Oklahoma Community Service Commission, which is sponsored by Secretary of State Colin Powell. Jerry worked with ASCOG. She sponsored the Black Heritage Club at Chickasha High School. Jerry was involved with many other activities within the Chickasha community. Prior to being employed at Chickasha High School, Jerry was employed as the Assistant Food Service Director at USAO. For the past 14 years, Jerry worked at Chickasha High School as the Assistant Librarian. She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory: her daughter, Ashley Nicole Mitchell of the home; two sisters: Lucita Mitchell of Oklahoma City, OK, and Sheila Mitchell of Chickasha, OK; four aunts: Ola Mae (James Carl) Graham of Los Angeles, California, Geraldine Graham of Chickasha, OK, Hattie Hollings of Texas, and Marciss Johnson of Texas. Jerry also leaves to cherish her memory her many cousins, other relatives and friends, and a loving church family.
