Ruby Lee Melton was born the daughter of Joel Lee Edens and Hattie Black Edens on November 9, 1904, in Young County, Texas. She died on February 22, 2003, in Chickasha. In 1928, Ruby married Charles Franklin Melton in Graham, Texas. She lived most of her life in Chickasha and graduated from the Oklahoma College for Women (now the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma) with a bachelors of arts degree in English. She was also actively involved in college theatre productions. After graduation, she taught school in Verden and Anadarko. Ruby was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church and sang in the church choir. She was also a member of the McDowell Music Club. Ruby loved to travel and spent time in Europe and Hong Kong. She also visited the east coast on fall foliage tours. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, Joe Edens, one sister, Pearl Wilkinson, and one nephew, Lee Edens. Survivors include: sister: Jewel Baker of Graham, Texas; sister- in-law: Pauline Edens of Woodson, Texas; niece and husband: Gail and Jack White of Graham, Texas; niece and husband: Harriett and Jerry McCluer of Plano, Texas; nephew: Kirk Eden of Garland, Texas; great niece and husband: Jan and Bill Bailey of Amber, Oklahoma; three great great nephews; one great great niece.
