All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::City Cemetery--Duncan OK Duncan Banner 9/13/2002 Elvard Merritt Elvard Merritt, 80, of Duncan died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, in Saint Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City. Service was to be at 2 p.m. today in Bethel Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Ron Meador and the Rev. J.R. Tucker officiating. Burial was to be in Duncan Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home of Marlow. Mr. Merritt was born June 26, 1922, in Agawam, to William Robert and Emma Josephine Morris Merritt. He married Irene Estelle Kaspereit on June 26, 1944, in Rush Springs. Mr. Merritt was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Army. He lived most of his life in the Duncan area. He worked as a truck driver for 10 years and owned and operated Merritt Spraying and Trimming for many years. He retired after 20 years with Quality Control/Waste Disposal City of Duncan. Mr. Merritt was a member of Bethel Assembly of God since 1963, where he was a former deacon. He had an orchard and he loved to manicure his lawn and flowers. Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Jack Ingram and Emily and Richard Allen, all of Duncan; two step-grandchildren, Jackie Ingram and Katherine Ingram, both of Duncan; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Willard and Viola Merritt of Riverton, Neb., and Otis and Barbara Merritt of Agawam; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mae Davis of Fresno, Calif., and Donna and Herman Kaspereit of Duncan. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Judy Yvonne Merritt in 1957; four brothers; and three sisters. Bearers were to be David Cantwell, Gerold Morris, Billy Lee, Scott Meador, Jonathan Cantwell, Terry Chasteen, Russell Morris and Elmer Walton. Honorary bearers are Donna and E.T.
