The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. ====================================================================== The Chickasha Express-Star 19 July 2002 VAUGHN OTEY Funeral service for Vaughn Otey, age 68, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2002, in the Bible Baptist Church. Rev. Kim Hayes will officiate. Leonard Vaughn Otey was born, the son of Leonard Virginias Otey and Ruby Rawson Otey, on May 21, 1934, in Verden, Oklahoma. He died on Wednesday, July 17, 2002, in Moore, Oklahoma. Vaughn grew up in the Laverty area and attended Freeman School north of the Laverty community. He began the ninth grade at Pioneer School and graduated from Pioneer. Vaughn worked for his uncle at Dills Phillips 66 from the age of 15 until he entered the United States Army. After his discharge from the Army, Vaughn returned to Chickasha and continued working at the gas station. In 1978 he bought the station from his uncle and operated it until 1989 when he retired. Vaughn was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed being an umpire and referee for twenty-five years. He was preceded in death by his mother and one brother. Survivors include: Phyllis Otey of the home; daughter and husband: Gayla and Larry Patrick, of Chickasha; son and wife: Gary and Angie Otey, of Chickasha; daughter and husband: Gina and Terry Schlein, of Duncan; five grandchildren: Derek Bond, Sheena Schlein, Shana Schlein, Kayla Otey and Karli Otey; dad: Leonard V. Otey., of Chickasha; sister: Joyce Wyatt, of Hydro; brother: Dale Otey, of Cement; brother: Delbert Otey, of Corona, California; brother, Larry Otey, of Alex; and special aunt and uncle: Lois and Bill Dill, of Chickasha. Interment will be in the Laverty Cemetery. Service will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home.
