OWEN Funeral services for Bruce B. Owen, 77, of Chickasha, Okla., will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 16, 2004, at Disciple Christian Church, west of Try-Cit at the Hwy. 37 and Hwy. 76 junction. Bruce was born Aug. 12, 1926, and died on Tuesday, July 13, 2004, in Chickasha. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, Chickasha, under the direction of McRay Funeral Home. ========== The Chickasha Express-Star 15 July 2004 BRUCE B. OWEN Funeral services for Bruce Baxter Owen, age 77, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 16, 2004, at the Disciple Christian Church, Newcastle, Oklahoma, west of Tri-City at the Highway 37 and Highway 76 junction, where he was an active member. Reverend Ron Savage of the Disciple Christian Church will officiate, with Billy Elkins, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, Chickasha, assisting. Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Bruce was born on August 12, 1926, in Clinton, Oklahoma, to Sue Kilman Owen and A. Hope Owen. He died on July 13, 2004, at his home in Chickasha. Bruce graduated from Shawnee High School in 1944. He received his undergraduate degree from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, his master's degree from the University of Iowa and his Ph.D. from the University of Kansas. Bruce taught at Northeastern A and M College and the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. In 1971, he joined the staff of Oklahoma City Community College as Vice President of Instructional Affairs, where his enthusiasm and leadership were instrumental in creating an innovative, uniquely student-centered learning institution. He retired from OCCC in 1987. He was inducted in the Oklahoma Higher Education Hall of Fame in 1999 for his role in the development of the college. Bruce married Almarie Wall on July 28, 1951 in Plainview, Texas. Together they had one daughter, Lisa. Bruce was an accomplished woodworker, pianist and computer buff. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Hope Pritchard, and brother, Kip Owen. Bruce is survived by his wife, Almarie of the home, daughter, Lisa and her husband, David Welch of Chickasha, granddaughter, Tracie Bates of Chickasha, brother, Gene and wife, Mary Frank Owen of Plainview, Texas, sister-in-law, Rita Wall of Plainview, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home.
