Orr was born Jan. 17, 1910, in Altus, Okla., and died on Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, in Chickasha. ========== The Chickasha Express-Star 30 December 2002 HATTIE B. ORR Funeral service for Hattie B. Orr, age 92, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 31, 2002, at the First Presbyterian Church. Rev. Barbara Hunt will officiate and Rev. Larry Hatfield will assist. Hattie B. Orr was born, the daughter of Frances Elmer Barrett and Cora Alice Munsell Barrett, on January 17, 1910, in Altus, Oklahoma. She died on Friday, December 27, 2002, in Chickasha. Hattie graduated from Altus High School in 1927. In 1931, she graduated from the University of Oklahoma and later received her masters in 1950. During this time, she married Joseph Everett Orr on March 27, 1937, in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Hattie taught school in Tulsa Union Consolidated Schools, Waurika, and Seminole. She also taught third grade at the University of Oklahoma Laboratory School. During her career in teaching, she also taught on the college level at the University of Oklahoma. In 1965, Hattie began teaching at Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts, now USAO, retiring in 1974. She was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church and attended the First Presbyterian Church. Hattie was active in the Chickasha Literacy Council, Grady Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and Delta Kappa Gamma. Hattie was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two sisters, and her husband, Joseph, on September 21, 1981. Survivors include: daughter: Marilyn Wewerka of Carraroe, Co. Galway, Ireland; daughter: Marjorie Beck of Eugene, Oregon; two grandchildren; one great grandchild. Interment will be in the Martha Cemetery north of Altus. Services are under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home. Hattie requested that in lieu of flowers, give a book of quality to a child as often as possible. --------------------------------------------------------------------
