Sonny Pool was born July 19, 1926, and died on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002, in Chickasha ========== The Chickasha Express-Star 1 October 2002 MELVIN "SONNY" POOL Services for Melvin S. "Sonny" Pool, 76, of Chickasha, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2002, in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Hatfield officiating. Sonny Pool was born on July 19, 1926, in Duncan, OK, the son of Clarence Pool and Louisa Hendrix Pool. He died Sunday, September 29, 2002, at his home in Chickasha. Sonny moved to Chickasha as a child. He attended Chickasha schools before joining the United States Navy, where he was a barber on the ship. After leaving the Navy, he married Betty Jo Slater on June 22, 1948, in Anadarko, OK. He was a truck driver for Gibbs Fitzpatrick Dairy, after which he worked for Hoffman Trucking and Haus Phillips, among other companies. Sonny enjoyed horse racing and raising dogs, when he wasn't busy fishing. Sonny was preceded in death by both parents, two brothers and one son, Ricky. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty Jo; two daughters and sons-in-law: Betty Jean and Ron Ford and Charlotte and Glenn McDonnell; two sons and daughters-in-law: James and Sharon Pool and Monty and Emily Pool; two brothers and sister-in-law: Aubrey Pool and Easel and Juanita Pool; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home. --------------------------------------------------------------------
