POWELL Word has been received of the death of former Chickasha resident, Leila J. Powell, 78. Ms. Powell died February 23, 2003, in the Alexandria, VA. Hospital with her family at her side. She was born December 31, 1924, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, to Green Berry Farr and Maggie Dawson Farr. She grew up in Chickasha and graduated from Chickasha High School in 1942. She married Cecil G. Powell on July 31, 1946, in Chickasha. The family moved to Lawton in 1951. She earned a bachelor of arts in Spanish with a minor in Russian from the University of Oklahoma in 1964 and received a master's degree in Spanish from Stanford University in 1972. She taught in Spanish at Lawton High School 1965 to 1969.
