All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Rose Hill Cemetery--Chickasha OK The Chickasha Express-Star 5 April 2004 ELLA BELLE (EB) POWERS Funeral services for Ella Belle Powers will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at First Presbyterian Church in Chickasha, Oklahoma, with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home. Friends and family may visit the funeral home for viewing prior to the service from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, and from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ella Belle (EB) Powers, a lifetime resident of Chickasha, Oklahoma, passed away on Thursday, April 1, 2004, while on a vacation tour in New Orleans, Louisiana. EB, the youngest child of Jacob Calvin Good and Ella Belle Leonard Good, was born at the family home in Chickasha, Oklahoma, on March 24, 1916. EB grew up in Chickasha, where she graduated from Chickasha High School in 1931. After receiving her degree in home economics from Oklahoma College for Women (now the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma) in 1935, she became a home economics teacher in the Rush Springs, Oklahoma, public schools. On February 17, 1940, EB married Roy William Powers, and together they raised three sons. In January of 1954, she went to work as a home service economist for Public Service Electric Company. Working out of the Chickasha, Oklahoma, office of PSCo., EB was responsible for home economics-related customer service for the entire Southwest Oklahoma region. She was well known for her cooking demonstrations and "helpful kitchen tips for using the latest electric appliances." In 1978 she retired from the electric company following twenty-four years of service. EB, along with her family, was an active longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Chickasha. She has served as an elder in the church, was a participating member of the Presbyterian Women's Asspciation and was active in the church's community food programs. During her lifetime, EB Powers was an enthusiastic participant in a wide variety of community services and personal activities. A loving wife, mother, and a close friend to many, she loved to dance, play contract bridge, travel and spend time with her family. Those are the activities that she especially enjoyed following her retirement. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy William Powers, her son, Oliver Bennett Powers, her second husband, Vernon Hines, and his son, James Richard Hines, and three brothers; Leonard Phelps Good, Calvin Favorite Good, and John Daniel Good. She is survived by two sons; Roy William Powers, II and, his wife, Janelle of Norman, Oklahoma, and Robert Leonard Powers and, his wife, Kathy of Laguna Niguel, California; daughter-in-law, Anita Louise Powers of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; her sister, Mary Swineford of Chickasha; five grandchildren, Roy William Powers, III and his wife Jenny (McKinney, Texas), Molly Lyn (Powers) Murador and her husband Alexandre (Fort Worth, Texas), Robert Mark Powers and his wife Jamie (Midland, Texas), Isaiah Lucas Powers and Micah Joel Powers (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma); and three great grandchildren, Ryan William Powers, Connor James Powers and Mallory Elizabeth Powers; sister-in-law, Yoshie Good; stepdaughter, Sarita Mullinex and her husband, Roy (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma), Sarita's daughter Diedra Gordon and her husband, Paul; step-daughter-in-law, Judi Hines (Hanford, California), and children, Christina Kathleen Hines and Richard Hines. The family has requested that anyone interested in making a charitable contribution in the name of Ella Belle Powers may send a donation to the USAO memorial scholarship fund established by EB Powers honoring her son, Oliver Bennett Powers, or to a charity of your personal choice.
