PLATT - PIONEER RESIDENT OF VERDEN The Verden News March 24, 1944 SERVICES FOR C. W. PLATT TO BE HELD FRIDAY Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p. m. today for C. W. Platt, pioneer resident of Verden, at the First Baptist church with Rev. C. W. Taylor and Rev. P. F. Harmon officiating. Hansen Funeral Home has charge of arrangements and interment will be in the Verden Cemetery. Columbus W. Platt was born May 30, 1866 in Arkansas and died at his home here at 7:40 p. m. March 19, 1944 at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 29 days. He was united in marriage to Samantha Cypert, July 11, 1895 and to this union sixteen children were born, seven having preceded him in death. He moved his family from Arkansas to eastern Oklahoma in 1900 and from there to near Verden in 1911. He retired from farming a few years ago. He was a member of the Baptist church. Special music will be furnished by a duet, Mrs. J. N. Kern and Mrs. R. M. Caldwell, [who] will sing "The Old Rugged Cross," "No Night There," and "Sweet Bye and Bye" with piano accompaniment by Mrs. I H. Bilbrey. Surviving members of the family include the wife, three daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Dirickson of Verden, Mrs. Irene Norton of Oklahoma City, and Mrs. Pauline Weiner of Los Angeles, Calif.; six sons, Troy of Marysville, Calif., Roy of Centerville, Calif., Robert of Richmond, Calif., Carris of Oklahoma City, Ferris of Verden and Ernest of the U. S. Army in Ireland; 28 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
