Roper was born on Feb. 20, 1933. He died on Dec. 2, 2004. ========== The Chickasha Express-Star 5 December 2004 KENNETH VANCE ROPER Funeral service for Kenneth Vance Roper, age 71, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, formerly of Verden, Oklahoma, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 6, 2004, in the McRay Funeral Home Chapel. Kenneth Vance Roper was born the son of Claude Samuel Roper and Effie Frick Roper on February 20, 1933, in Verden. He died on December 2, 2004, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Kenneth graduated from Verden High School where he played on the basketball team. He then served in the United States Army for two years. After being discharged, he returned to Verden where he married Darlene Johnston on October 11, 1956. He began working for Safeway in 1957, where his career spanned thirty-five years. Kenneth started with the company in Chickasha, ultimately rising to the position of store manager in Clovis, New Mexico. He was later transferred to Tulsa where he was promoted to District Manager. He continued working during the transition to Homeland and retired in 1992. Kenneth was a member of the Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Vergil Roper. Survivors include his wife, Darlene Roper of Broken Arrow; son and wife, Randy & Tamara Roper of Edmond; daughter, LaDee Roper of Fayetteville, Arkansas; grandchildren, Kylie & Lanie Roper; sister-in-law, Patsy Roper of Weatherford; nephew, Ronnie Roper of Bethany; nephew, Vergil Roper, Jr. of Weatherford. Interment will be in the Friendship Cemetery in Pocasset, Oklahoma. Service will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home.
