Wake service will be at Christ the King Church, Oklahoma City, at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Joe Roy Ross, 81, died in Oklahoma City on Saturday. Joe was born in Chickasha on November 8, 1920, to Henry and Marie Ross. He attended St. Joseph's Academy in Chickasha and then graduated with a degree in agronomy from Oklahoma A&M, where he met Mary Schott of Stillwater. They married May 2, 1943. Joe served in the 337th then the 135th Infantry in Italy during World War II. When he returned from the war Mary and Joe established their home in Chickasha, where they reared their ten children. Before his retirement Joe was active in Chickasha as proprietor of Ross Seed Co. During his life he was active in his church, served on the Catholic Foundation and on the Board of St. Gregory's College and the Directors of the Oklahoma National Bank, was a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Jaycees, the Chamber of Commerce, the City Planning Commission, the Oklahoma Seedsman's Association and other professional groups. He has been retired for several years, and since November he has resided at Brighton Gardens in Oklahoma City where he made many friends. Joe is survived by his son, Val R. Ross, and his wife Terri, of Oklahoma City; son, Henry P. Ross, and his wife Alison, of Edmond; son, Jeffrey C. Ross, of Okarche; daughter, Deborah J. Morse, of Edmond; daughter, Stephanie L. Edmond, and her husband Rick, of Stafford, Va.; daughter, Mary Kathryn Shaw, and her husband Ted, of Ninnekah; son, Dr. William B. Ross, and his wife, Patricia, of Tulsa; son, Dr. James M. Ross, and his wife, Jane, of Ouray, CO, daughter, Barbara A. Andrews, and her husband Jerry, of Oklahoma City; and son, Fr. Joe Ross, of Oklahoma City. Joe was preceded in death by his wife and love of his life, Mary, who died on May 3 of last year. His parents, Henry and Marie Ross, his sister, Mary Ann Doak, and a granddaughter, Gayle Ross, also preceded him. He is survived by twenty-two grandchildren: Shawn, Michelle and Scott Andrews; Dr. Amy Ross, Jonathan and Joseph Ross; David and John Ross; Amanda, Sam and Tyler Shaw; Eric and Jenny Edmond; Kyle and Daniel Morse; Alexandra, Andrew and Caleb Ross; and Kasey, Abigail, Adam and Matthew Ross. Joe is also survived by his sister, Helen Von Feldt, of Philadelphia; sister, Janet Volzff, of Albuquerque, MN; brother, Fr. William Ross, of Purcell; brother, Walter Ross, of El Reno; and brother, Fr. James Ross, of Oklahoma City. In his day Joe Roy Ross was a strong advocate for Grady County agriculture and for the good of the City of Chickasha. At home he was the Patriarch: a gifted storyteller, an animator of family memories and a willing entertainer. Few who knew him well could easily forget him. He will be missed. The family would like to thank Mercy at Home for their excellent care, and also acknowledge the staff end residents of Brighton Gardens.
