Reed Funeral services for Kenneth L. Reed, 52, of Chickasha, will be held Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church in Chickasha, with Reverend Kim Hayes of the Bible Baptist Church officiating, and Leo Bradley assisting. Kenneth L. Reed was born October 6, 1949, in Chickasha, the son of Charles Reed and Mary Lou Jacks Reed. He died Friday, April 19, 2002, in Chickasha. When Ken was twelve years of age he moved with his family to the Griggs Community near Keyes, Oklahoma. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1967. After graduation he attended UCU, where he played basketball. He married Bobbie Kay Cook on August 24, 1969, in Guymon, Oklahoma. Ken was drafted into the U. S. Army in September of 1969 and served two years of duty. He returned to Chickasha in August of 1980. Ken served as an officer on the Chickasha Police Force from 1981 to 1984. He then served as a member of the Grady County Sheriff's Department before being accepted into the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Academy in June of 1985. In 1990 he was promoted to second lieutenant; in 1996 he was promoted to first lieutenant, and in 1998 to captain. While a member of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, he served as a Driver's License Examiner, Troop Commander for Safety Education, and Legislative Liaison. His last assignment was captain over the Turnpike Authority for the Highway Patrol. Ken was a member of the Oklahoma State Trooper's Association and a member of Bible Baptist Church. Ken enjoyed fishing and his 1965 Pontiac GTO. Spending time with his family was, above all, very important to him, especially his two grandchildren, Weston and Makenna. His family was the true joy of his life. Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Reed, of the home; mother, Mary Lou Back, of Carter, Oklahoma; father, Charles Reed, of Pasco, Washington; one daughter and son-in-law, Kendra and Todd Parker, of Hugo, Oklahoma; one son and daughter-in-law, Kory and Tara Reed, of Chickasha; one sister, Cheryl Reed, of Taos, New Mexico; and two grandchildren, Weston and Makenna Parker, of Hugo, Oklahoma. Memorials may be made to the Bible Baptist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 762, Chickasha, Oklahoma 73023, or the Cancer Therapy and Research Center for Colorectal Cancer, 7979 Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, Texas 78229. Active casket bearers will be Cpt. Mike Grimes, 1st Lt. Leo Bradley, 2nd Lt. John Evans, 2nd Lt. Craig Metcalf, Trp. Steve Huseman and Trp. Steve Lehr. Honorary casket bearers will be Gene Ferguson, Rick Weldon, Danny Sterling, Tony Willis, Stan Florence and Glen McConnell. Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
