Reed was born on Dec. 6, 1903, and died on Sept. 29, 2003 in Chickasha. ========== The Chickasha Express-Star 1 October 2003 GERTRUDE ANN "GERTIE" REED Funeral service for Gertrude Ann "Gertie" Reed, age 99, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 2, 2003, in the McRay Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. David Thompson will officiate. Gertrude Ann Reed was born the daughter of Joseph A. Johnson and Alice Anora Fuqua Johnson on December 6, 1903, in Hazel, Oklahoma, where her Grandpa ran the cotton gin. She died on September 29, 2003, in Chickasha. Gertrude's family homesteaded near Seminole in the land run of 1907. She and her family traveled by covered wagon as they moved from place to place while growing up. Quite often the covered wagon was their home. Her family had lived in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico. Gertrude attended school for 10 1/2 years in Duncan, Oklahoma. She moved to Amber in 1927. Gertrude married Luther Reed on June 23, 1929, in Chickasha. Gertrude and her husband farmed in the Amber area until 1939, when they moved to their farm east of Verden. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one sister, and her husband in 1973. Survivors include: her daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Leon Seebeck of Verden; her son, Roy Reed of Verden; her 4 grandchildren, Donna and Cecil Hill of Newalla, Gary and Karen Seebeck of Chickasha, Brenda and Brandan Bickerstaff of Chickasha, Kevin and Michelle Reed of Tuttle; 12 great grandchildren; 11 great great grandchildren, 3 great great great grandchildren. Interment will be in the Amber Cemetery. Service will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home.
