Rodgers Fort Worth -- J.W. Rodgers, 76, a retired farmer and truck driver, died October 22, 2001, at a local hospital after a long, courageous battle with cancer and emphysema. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 24, 2001, at Lucas Funeral Home on Sylvania in Fort Worth. Services will be graveside at Central Cemetery in Weatherford, Texas, at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2001. Memorials may be sent to Vitas Hospice, 2501 Parkview Drive, Fort Worth, Texas 76102 J.W. Rodgers was born December 7, 1924, in Tuttle, Grady County, Oklahoma. He was the son of Mick and May Stidham Rodgers. He farmed in Oklahoma and owned his own trucking company in Fort Worth, Texas. He also ranched in Hill County and worked at Hill College in Hillsboro, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Gary Kent Rodgers, his brother Paul Rodgers, and his sister, Vera "Sis" Rodgers Hurd. Survivors include: his wife of 56 years, Marie Short Rodgers, of Haltom City; his daughter, Kathy Rodgers McDaniel of Haltom City; grandson Todd McDaniel and wife Cynthia, of Carrollton, Texas; grandson Jason McDaniel, his wife, Amy, of Reno, Texas and her children Tiffany, Stephanie, and Colton; one granddaughter, Jessica Rodgers of Arlington, Texas; his brother, Don Rodgers of Fort Worth; two sisters, Margaret Rodgers Morse and her husband, Clayton, of Chickasha, Oklahoma and Francis Rodgers Morris and her husband, John, of Norman, Oklahoma; his aunt Caroline Stidham Rodgers and uncle Homer Stidham, both of Chickasha, Oklahoma; many nieces and nephews, and cousins galore; one tough dog, Spanky; lots of friends in all three areas. A special thanks to Amos and Gussie for helping us through these tough months. A warm thank you to the Oncology Staff at Texas Cancer Center and All Saints Hospital.
