ROWLAND Master Sergeant (U. S. Air Force Retired) James W. Rowland, age 76, of Mount Dora, Florida, formerly of Tuttle, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2002 in Lexington, Okla. He was born in Tuttle on April 8, 1926. He was the oldest of four children born to Arch Rowland and Nina (McCarthey) Rowland. James grew up in Tuttle and graduated from Tuttle High School. After graduation he joined the U. S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He was honorably discharged from the Navy and a couple of years later he joined the U.S. Air Force. He served many overseas tours of duty and fought in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired from the Air Force in the early 19701s and went to work for the Veterans Administration in San Francisco until his retirement in 1991. After his retirement, James enjoyed traveling and traveled throughout the United States. James married Ruth J. Dewitt in Las Vegas, Nev. They traveled together and were visiting relatives in Lexington at the time of his death. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Church of Christ. He was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous and had been clean and sober for over 20 years. He loved his family greatly and was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend to many. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Billy. He is survived by: his wife, Ruth Rowland of the home; sons, Charles Rowland and wife, Debra of Alex, Okla. and Bobby Lock and wife Katie of Temecula, Calif.; brother, Ronald Rowland and wife Shirley of Oklahoma City; sisters, Barbara Brown and husband Lee of Medford, Ore. and Jeanette Alexander and husband Charles of Moore, Okla.; four grandchildren and many other loving relatives and friends. Memorial service was held 10 a.m., Saturday, June 15, 2002 at the Tuttle Church of Christ. Arrangements under the direction of Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.
