All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== ::Duncan Cemetery--Duncan OK Duncan Banner 2 Mar 2003 Maxine Nigh Renfrow Maxine Nigh Renfrow, 83, of Duncan, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 1, 2003, in Duncan, OK. Graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m., Monday at Duncan Cemetery with Ron Stough officiating. Burial is under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 today at the funeral home. Mrs. Renfrow was born November 27,1919, on the family farm southwest of Duncan to Geneva Frances Carruth and Lewis Elmer Nigh. The family lived in Duncan and Chickasha. She attended first grade at Union Hill Elementary School and then eventually graduated from Chickasha High School in 1935. She attended David Lipscomb Christian College in Nashville, Tenn., for two years. She attended the Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha and earned a bachelor of science in education. During her first year of teaching at Locust Grove she met and married Tommy Lee Renfrow on April 11, 1943 in Duncan. They made their home in southwest Duncan for 48 years. Mrs. Renfrow taught at Empire School for nine years and at Irving Elementary in Duncan for 27 years. She retired after 37 years of teaching. She was an outstanding and successful teacher, loved and respected by her pupils and her fellow teachers. In addition to her passion for teaching, she enjoyed sewing, crafts, and ceramics and china painting. She was an active member of Eastside Church of Christ. She is a beloved wife, mother, sisters, grandmother, aunt, teacher and friend. Survivors are, a son and daughter-in-law, Benjamin and Zelda Renfrow of Duncan; three grandchildren, Raymond Alvin Renfrow, Terscia Diane Renfrow, and Rita Kay Walser; five great-grandchildren; one niece, Betty Atkinson of Shreveport, La., and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Renfrow was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Jewel Fay Latsos and Loyce Opal Nigh and her devoted husband, Tommy.
