The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. ==================================================================== The Chickasha Express-Star 4 September 2002 MAX EDGAR ROWNTREE Funeral services for Max Edgar Rowntree, 86, of Chickasha, Okla., will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, at the First Baptist Church, Chickasha. Max Edgar Rowntree departed this life at his home in Chickasha, Monday, Sept. 2, 2002. He was born July 26, 1916, in Newcastle, Okla., son of Lawrence and Mamie (Whited) Rowntree. Max, throughout his life, wore many hats: college football, Hollywood Grip, World War II veteran, bodybuilder, Little League coach, mail carrier, owner of Max's Drive-in, huge Chickasha sports fan, crooner, ballroom dancer and resident comedian. More importantly, a loving husband to his wife, Lucille, and a devoted father to his children, Dirk, Doug, Dyke, Dana and Dala. He was preceded in death by: Wife: Lucille Marguerite (Edwards) Rowntree in 1989; 1 son: Dyke Rowntree August 3, 1988. Survivors include: 2 sons and their wives: Doug and Debra Rowntree of Chickasha, Okla., Dirk and Jean Rowntree of New York City, New York; 2 daughters: Dala Rowntree of Dallas, Texas, and Dana Brody and husband Brian of Oklahoma City, Okla.; 1 sister: Naoma Latham of Reno, Nevada and her children: Delores, Larry, David, and Kelly; Grandchildren: Brandon & Colleen Ricks, Brian & Caroline Ricks and son, Kyle; also many cousins, nieces and nephews and friends. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.
