The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. ====================================================================== The Chickasha Express-Star 16 July 2002 ROLAND HOWARD SHOFFIT Funeral service for Roland Howard Shoffit, 75, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 18, 2002, in the Chapel of Sevier Funeral Home. Roland Howard Shoffit was born August 24, 1926, in Centrahoma, Oklahoma, the son of William Oscar and Mamie Elizabeth (Felton) Shoffit, and died Sunday July 14, 2002, in Chickasha. He and Modenia Hutchinson were married September 13, 1947, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They moved to Chickasha in 1948. Mr. Shoffit worked for Boltons and Gilt Edge, and was last employed by Jackson Trailers. He was also an avid golfer. He played baseball for the New York Yankees, New York Giants and Pittsburgh Pirates Minor League teams. He started the Blue Jays sandlot baseball team and was involved in Little League and the American Legion. Mr. Shoffit served in the U. S. 803rd Army Marine Ship Repair Company from October 20, 1944, to August 14, 1946. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon and Overseas Service Bar. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, 2 brothers and 2 grandchildren. Survivors include: his wife: Modenia Shoffit, of the home; 2 daughters: Janis Varva, of Newalla, Oklahoma, Terry Shoffit of Chickasha, Oklahoma; 2 sons: Daniel Shoffit, of Noble, Oklahoma, Mark Shoffit, of Duncan, Oklahoma; 3 sisters: Lillian Kuhlman, of Minco, Oklahoma, Marguerite Huseman, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, Wanda Pilcher, of Edmond, Oklahoma; 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren. Interment will be in the Pocasset Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.
