The little child was playing around a fire where Mr. Spencer was burning corn stalks and getting too near the blaze its clothing caught fire. The father rushed to the rescue of the child and succeeded in putting out the flames, but not until the little one had been burned so badly that it only lived until the next day. Dr. W. R. Mitchell was immediately called, but the child was past all human aid. The remains were laid to rest in the Verden cemetery Saturday afternoon. In putting out the flames Mr. Spencer received several severe and painful burns, but none of them were of a serious nature. Submitted by Sandi Carter
