James Leon Stephens was born June 1, 1928, in Ninnekah, and died on Wednesday, July 21, 2004, in Chickasha. Burial will be in Ninnekah Cemetery, Ninnekah, under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home. ========== The Chickasha Express-Star 22 July 2004 JAMES LEON (PEG) STEPHENS Funeral services for James Leon (Peg) Stephens, 76, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held Friday, July 23, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Larry Hatfield officiating. James Leon (Peg) Stephens was born June 1, 1928, in Ninnekah, Oklahoma, the son of Clarence Stephens and Maggie Ross Stephens. He went to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at his home in Chickasha. James, known to his friends as "Peg," grew up in the Ninnekah area. At age 17 he started driving a truck as a cross country driver. He drove for several companies throughout the years, until his retirement in 1999. Peg married Loretta June Kennedy on December 24, 1953, in Anadarko, Oklahoma. In December 2003, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of Grand Assembly of God Church. He was preceded in death by both parents, one brother, Harven Stephens, one sister, Catherine Burkey and one grandson, Justin Stephens. Survivors include his wife, June Stephens, of the home; son, James Stephens, Jr., of Chickasha; son and daughter-in-law, Terry and JoAnn Stephens, of Chickasha; two daughters and sons-in-law: Arlita and Vernon Prentiss, of Bethany, Oklahoma, and Maria and Steve Lasseter, of Chickasha; one sister, Doris Blaine, of Canon City, Colorado; 10 grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
