Stokes, 78, of Chickasha were held Monday, October 24, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. in the Memory Lane Cemetery in Anadarko, Oklahoma with Kim Hayes officiating. Leota Elois Harris was born May 18, 1927 in Cement, Oklahoma the daughter of Robert Lindsey Harris and Ella Hargus Harris. She died Friday, October 21, 2005 in Chickasha. Leota grew up in Cement, graduating from Cement High School in 1945. She married William Arthur Stokes on September 20, 1946 in Byhalia, Ohio. While in Ohio Leota was employed with Goodyear for several years. After the death of her husband Bill, she moved to Chickasha to be close to her brothers and sisters. While in Chickasha she was employed with Hermetic Switch until her retirement. Leota was devoted to her family, raising her granddaughter Amy since she was six years old. She was the best sister in the world, watching over her brothers and sister just like a mother would do. She also enjoyed spending her time with her many nieces and nephews. In her spare time, Leota enjoyed crocheting and quilting. She was also a member of the Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Stokes, daughter Mary Harruff, both parents, brothers Delmer and Lynn, and sisters Patricia and Altaloma. Survivors include her granddaughter, Amy Harruff; son-in-law, Vernon Harruff of Chickasha; one brother, John Harris, of Cement; four sisters: Betty Biggs of Cement, Anita Sluss, of Elyria, Ohio, Joan Franks o Chickasha and Jeanie Love of Chickasha; and many nieces and nephews.
