SELBURG - Verden Pioneer Anna M. Selburg was born in Gibson City, Illinois, September 30, 1874, and grew to young womanhood there. She united in marriage with John A. Woods at the age of nineteen at Colfax, Illinois, to this union was born three children, one having preceded her in death. Mr. and Mrs. Woods moved to Verden in 1901, having made their home here until the time of her death, which occurred December 10, 1933, at her home in this city. Mrs. Woods was 59 years, 2 months and 10 days. Very impressive services were held at the Methodist church, Tuesday afternoon at 230 o'clock with the pastor, Rev. N. T. Peak officiating. Beautiful hymn selections were rendered by the quarted by Mesdames J. N. Kern and R. M. Caldwell, Mr. C. E. Bell and Mr. F. G. Ransbarger, also Mrs. E. W. Peters sang a solo, "Saved by Grace." The pall bearers were P. S. Kern, J. N. Kern, S. A. Glotfelter, M. A. Linn, H. H. Arnett and C. A. Stiles. Mrs. Woods leaves to mourn her departure, her husband, son, Cecil and Lola, the two living children. Lola, who is now Mrs. H. L. Whitley, also a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Woods were the first people in Verden to operate a store and active in all civic activities. She placed her membership in the Methodist Church here, being one of the charter members, was active in the Missionary Society, Sunday School, rendered efficient services in the erection of the present Methodist church. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors. Interment was made in the Verden Cemetery with Hansen Funeral Home in charge Submitted by Sandi Carter
