SINGLETON Funeral services for Myrtle A. Singleton, 84, of Pocasset, Okla., are pending with McRay's Verden Funeral Home. Myrtle A. Singleton was born May 25, 1918, and died on Sunday, April 20, 2003. ========== The Chickasha Express-Star 22 April 2003 MYRTLE A. SINGLETON Funeral service for Myrtle A. Singleton, age 84, of Pocasset, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23, 2003, in the Verden Baptist Church. Rev. Johnny Wray will officiate. Myrtle was born the daughter of Andy Monroe Shook and Minnie Ewing Harrison Shook on May 25, 1918, in Gracemont, Oklahoma. She died April 20, 2003, in Chickasha. Myrtle attended a country school in the Spring Creek Community north of Verden and grew up attending the Spring Creek Baptist Church. She married Walter G. Singleton in 1936 in Anadarko, Oklahoma, and they made their home on the family farm in Spring Creek community. She and her husband farmed all of their lives. Myrtle also enjoyed growing a garden and canning fresh vegetables. However, the true joy of her life was her husband, children and grandchildren. She always liked to be on the go and enjoyed family and social gatherings. Myrtle was a member of the Verden First Baptist Church and the Women's Missionary Union. Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers. Ben, Walt, and T. J. Shook, five sisters, Lola Handke, Gracie Teeter, Mayme Russell, Artie Bussell, and Pearl Cannedy, and her husband. Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law: Roberta and Donnie Smith of Verden; daughter and son-in-law: Reba and Eddie Flood of Verden, daughter and son-in-law: Rojena and Don Hensley of Pocasset; son: Richard Singleton of Guthrie; son and daughter-in-law: Larry and Judy Singleton of Pocasset; foster son: Jack Bullard of Grove; thirteen grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
