February 2002 Leta Mae [Teeter] Smith Leta Mae Smith, daughter of Fonzo and Junia C. Cook Teeter, was born February 28, 1905, in Indian Territory, near Tipton, Oklahoma. She departed this life Saturday, February 16, 2002, in Webco Manor, in Marchfield, Missouri, at the age of ninety-six years, eleven months, and eighteen days. On December 25, 1928, she was united in marriage to Eugene Virgil Smith, and to this union one daughter and one son were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene, in 1978; and two brothers, George and Carl Teeter. Leta Mae is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jolene and Charles Waller, of Seymour, Missouri; a son and daughter-in-law, Darrell E. and Dee Smith, of Colleyville, Texas; two grandsons, Gary E. Waller, of Maple Valley, Washington, and Richard Sealy, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; six great-grandchildren; a sister, LaWanda Roberts, and her husband, John R., of Phoenix, Arizona; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born and raised in the Indian Territory in Oklahoma, and had lived in the Indian dugout homes. She then moved with her family in a covered wagon to Phoenix, Arizona, for a few years, before returning to Oklahoma. She and Eugene were married in Chickasha, Oklahoma and made their home in Minco, Oklahoma, where they lovingly raised their children. In 1981, she moved to Seymour, Missouri, to be near her daughter and her family. Throughout the years, Leta Mae was a devoted and hardworking homemaker. Leta Mae was saved and baptized by Ed Gregory on May 4, 1919, at the Rocky Baptist Church, in Rocky, Oklahoma. She was currently a member of the Diggins Baptist Church. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 20, 2002, in the Evergreen Cemetery, Minco, Oklahoma. Arrangements are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour, Missouri
