She professed religion at the age of 14, and united with the Methodist church, having been a pilgram for 62 years. She was married to J. F. Smith on September the 24, 1898, to this union 10 children were born, four of which died in infancy, the other six were present during her sickness and death, which came Monday morning at ten o'clock. The funeral was held in the Methodist church, and conducted by R. I. Graham and Rev. Taylor, and was laid to rest in the Verden cemetery. Mrs. Smith, together with her husband and children, moved from Illinois to the Indian Territory, making the trip in a wagon, and settled four miles north of Verden, residing in this vicinity ever since. Sister Smith was a faithful wife and mother, she came to this country in an early day when the souls of mothers were tried, but she proved faithful to her trust as a mother and wife, amid the busy whirl o f life she never lost sight of that all important question, "Prepare to meet thy God." Her long useful life will be missed by her many friends, though heaven will be brighter by her going. "Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord from henceforth thus sayeth the Spirit, they may rest from thy labors but their works do follow them." R. I. Graham, Pastor Submitted by Sandi Carter
