Leslie Smith died on Wednesday, April 18, 2001. ====================================================================== The Chickasha Express-Star 24 April 2001 Leslie Dale "Smitty" Smith Our dad, Leslie Dale "Smitty" Smith, loving husband and father, passed away Wednesday morning at 12:15 a.m. April 18, 2001. He was the son of R. D. Smith and Tomosa Pearl Farwell. They preceded him in death along with an infant daughter, Rita Joe, brother, J. P. Smith, brother, Eddy Lee Fryrear, sister, Willie Juanita Collins. He is survived by his wife, Maxine; brother, Wesley B. Smith; son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Brenda Smith; daughter and son-in-law, Gale and Tim Hansen; grandchildren, Zachery and Lesli; step grandchildren, John, Jason, Brandi, Corey, Blake, Chad and Dusty. Smitty was born in Ninnekah, Oklahoma. He went to Chickasha High School and lived most of his life here except for a time served with the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1936-1937 at Grand Canyon, Arizona. He also served in the United States Army. He enlisted in the 189th Field Artillery from 1940-1941 and later served with the 809th Army Air Force as an airp lane-engine mechanic having a tour of duty overseas in the South Pacific during World War II. Dad was honorably discharged in 1945. Dad later met mom and married her on October 13, 1954, of which they have 46 years of life together and two children to bless their home. Dad worked hard all his life, but he loved his life, his family, and friends. In his retirement years, his favorite things were working in the yard, playing with Kelly "the dog," watching sports on T.V., listening to his marching music CD, or sitting in the back yard bird watching. We will miss you daddy. Love always Gale, Dale and Max. Service will be graveside at Rose Hill Cemetery, Saturday, April 21, 2001, 2:00 p.m. Rev. Bill Pendergrass will officiate. Service will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home.
